The short answer is: no, they are not different. Material safety data sheets ((M)SDS) and safety data sheets (SDS) are the same thing. Both help ensure the safe handling and transportation of hazardous materials by providing necessary safety information to all parties involved. Although both formats contain the same information, SDSs are structured in accordance to the Global harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) format. This means SDSs follow GHS's 16 sections in order. In other words, (M)SDSs and SDSs do provide the sme information but SDSs maintain the standardized format companies will be required to adopt by June 1, 2015.
